Fertility & Covid-19

Is the Covid-19 vaccination safe for fertility? For men, the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology (SMR) and the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR) recommend the following:

  • The COVID-19 vaccine should not be withheld from men desiring fertility who meet criteria for vaccination.
  • COVID-19 vaccines should be offered to men desiring fertility, similar to men not desiring fertility, when they meet criteria for vaccination.

What happens to my sperm count if I take the vaccine?

  • A study by Dr. Ramasamy et al. published June 17, 2021 in JAMA evaluated at sperm parameters before and after 2 doses of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.  They found that there were NO significant decreases in any sperm parameter among their patient population.  To learn more visit https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2781360.
